Forest Skiing

Forest skiing is a truly special way to experience the quiet beauty of Swedish Lapland in winter.

Moving gently through snow-covered forests on wide, easy-to-use skis, you travel as people have done here for generations—close to the land, in rhythm with the landscape.

Your forest skiing experience begins at Arctic Retreat, where you’ll be fitted with warm, high-quality winter clothing and traditional forest skis, designed for stability and ease rather than speed. Once ready, you head out with your guide into the surrounding wilderness, leaving tracks in fresh snow as you glide between frosted trees and across open clearings.

Along the way, your guide will help you read the landscape—pointing out animal tracks and sharing stories about the wildlife that call this forest home. With a bit of luck, you may spot signs of moose moving through the trees, or catch sight of a black grouse lifting quietly from the snow. The stillness of winter creates a unique atmosphere, where every sound is softened and every detail feels closer.

Midway through the tour, you’ll pause for a traditional Swedish fika, enjoyed outdoors in a peaceful setting. Warm drinks and something sweet offer a welcome moment to rest, take in your surroundings, and simply enjoy the silence of the Arctic winter.

The pace and route are always adapted to suit your fitness level, making this an accessible and rewarding experience for both beginners and those with more experience.
