Village Walk

Lean all about an vibrant local community on a guided walk through the village

Our village as strong local family connections going back hundreds of years as well as a wonderful mix of people who have moved to the area for our Arctic Lifestyle.

In the quaint village of Gunnarsbyn, the village walk serves as a personal introduction to the residents' cherished abode and its connections to Swedish society. Commencing the journey at the rectory, the starting point of the guides´ more than two-decade residence, the walk unfolds with a panoramic view of the locale. Ascending the hill, the church stands with an invitation to peek inside or perhaps indulge in a playful descent down the church hill.
A turnabout reveals the village shop, a cooperative venture owned by the community's inhabitants. Progressing past the globe of Gunnarsbyn, the route leads to "The Peoples House" or Folkets Hus, housing not only a cultural stage, cinema, and autumn marketplace but also the skilled weaving ladies and the venue for important elections.
The path then meanders toward the local commune office and the recycling station, offering insights into the administrative facets of village life. A visit to the village bakery ensues, a charming dwelling where the locals come together for the art of baking.
The journey continues towards the village mansion, Forsberg, where warm cups of cocoa, coffee, or tea await. On the route, one encounters the fire brigade, the school, and the school lunch restaurant, a place that once served as a boarding home for students hailing from distant places.
Despite the richness of the experiences encountered, the entire walk spans a mere 1.5 km, a journey typically completed in 15 minutes. However, this leisurely exploration provides an immersive glimpse into daily life, societal workings, and the unique ambiance of residing in this close-knit community.
